ONDERZOEK!

Onderzoek

Homo-Intolerantie Uitgelicht.

Indrukwekkende herdenking Turkse homo-activist

Indrukwekkende herdenking Turkse homo-activist

''Ahmet Yildiz is my family''.

Ahmetyildiz_gozlerinikapama1

Can Celebi & Ozkan Binol made a film " Kara Koyun " to remember the murder of Ahmet Yildiz in Turkey.

Unless other evidence comes forward from police in Turkey, which is highly unlikely given the evidence that already exists, it is nearly certain that Ahmet Yildiz was murdered by his own family. The reasoning behind his murder appears to be his families unacceptance of his homosexuality.

Ahmet Yildiz since your " so called family " killed you we want you to know your always part of our family, we do care, and we will not tolerate this injustice. Candles, flowers, and your t-shirt were laid on the Homo monument to remember you.

Thank you all for coming to the viewing and thanks to Homoloket for making this film to bring awareness of the situation.

Kavaf was Called to Resign!

Pembehayat_kavafeylem00 Kavaf was Called to Resign during the Anti-Homophobia Parade

For Photographs: http://www.kaosgl.org/icerik/homofobi_karsiti_yuruyuste_kavafa_istifa_cagrisi

This year the third Parade against homophobia and transphobia was hold with the attendance of 200 people in Ankara. With the Parade which was arranged for the 17th of May International Day Against Homophobia the 5th International Meeting against Homophobia has been completed.

Parade against Homophobia and Transphobia!

On the 16th of May, The Parade against Homophobia and Transphobia was held with the attendance of the people against homophobia and transphobia from Trabzon to Diyarbak?r, from Adana to ?zmir, all around Turkey, and LGBT people and organizations. Judith Butler who came to Ankara for the closure conference of the meeting also attended the parade. A day before, 300 audiences from Butler’s conference marched from Cebeci Campus to K?z?lay Sakarya with slogans.

A single placard signed "The 17th of May Initiative of Anti-Homophobia" was carried in the parade.

Just like the previous years, only rainbow flags were waved in the Parade against Homophobia and Transphobia. Throughout the parade, the slogans "Homophobia Kills!", "Transphobia Kills!", "Hate Kills!", "Neither Disease nor Sin Hurray Gay Love!" were shouted.

x93No Way to Release Alone, Either altogether or none of us!"

The parade which was coordinated by the 17th of May Anti-Homophobia Initiative, started at 13.00 in the area where  Tekel Workers’ resistance tents were set before.

During the parade which happened on the line between Txfcrk-?? Building and Bay?nd?r Street, the participants shout the slogans: "Tekel Worker is the Symbol of Resistance", "No Way to Release Alone, Either altogether or none of us!"

x93Neither Disease Nor Sin!x94

During the parade which continued up to the Human Rights Monument in Yxfcksel Street, Kavaf, The Minister of State for Woman and Family, was called for resign for several times. A short while ago, Minister Kavaf, had made a statement in which she described homosexuality as an illness.

In the press statement of the parade at the end of the 5th "17th of May International Meeting against Homophobia", it was underlined again that the system and its spokespersons’ discrimination of LGBT people by stigmatizing them as "diseased" and "sinner" is rejected.

In the press statement made on behalf of the 17th of May Initiative of Anti-Homophobia, it was said that people brought together to stand up to homophobia and transphobia.

In the press statement, in which legal reassurance to provide LGBT people with equal participation to all fields of social life was demanded, it was said that "We say no to those who are dismissing us from the social and political life by denying our existence."

The Slogans Shouted at the Parade against Homophobia and Transphobia:

x93No Way to Release Alone, Either altogether or none of us!", "Neither Disease Nor Sin Hurray Gay Love!",  "We won’t Surrender Homophobia will be Crashed", x93We Burned the Ships, We Throw away the masks, No way back!", "Love Love Freedom, Keep Back Hatred", x93Neither Crime nor Sin, Hurray Gay Love", "Homophobia Kills!", "Transphobia Kills", "Hate Kills!", "Whose Morality is Public Morality?", "Damn it, Damn it, Damn your Morality", x93Ahmet Y?ld?z is here, where are his killers!", x93Dilek ?nce is here where are her killers!", x93Those who don’t find the killers are Accomplices", x93We Want a World without Bosses and Procurers!", x93We are transsexuals, we are here, get used to it we won’t leave!", "Homosexuals are coming marching through the freedom", x93At school, at work, in the parliament, homosexuals are everywhere!", x93Kavaf, Resign!"

The Complete Text of the 17th of May International Day against Homophobia Press Statement:

Neither Disease nor Sin! Stop Homophobia and Transphobia!

We are ending the 5th International Meeting against Homophobia with our parade today.

17th of May International Day against Homophobia is the day to show action and stand up to all the physical, moral, or symbolic violence related to gender identities and sexual orientations.

We here as Lesbian, Gay,  Bisexual, Transgender individuals together with our friends to stand up to Homophobia and Transphobia.

The system and its spokespersons, who are denying our existence, and just because of our sexual orientations and gender identities behaving us as non-human-beings, are now stigmatizing us as "diseased" and "sinner"! We are rejecting it!

Producing hate speech cannot be considered as a "right to critique" or "freedom of speech"! Stop fueling hatred! The stigmatizers and producers of hate speech, are directly responsible from the violence and hate crimes against LGBT people. We know who are responsible.

WE ARE MARCHING AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA ND HATE!

BECAUSE

We do not want to die because we are not heterosexual – we want right to life!

Our right to life is extorted as we are homosexual and transsexual, we are exposed to violence and we are victims of hate crimes.

The polis does not find the murderers of homosexual and transsexual people.

In the courts, our  killers are given punishment discounts as they killed homosexual and transsexual people.

We are, as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people, still deprived of our basic human rights.

Because we are homosexual and transsexual, our freedom of speech and organizing are surrounded by the blockade of "public morality".

We are suppressed, our participation to social, cultural, economical and political life is obstructed.

Due to our gender identities and sexual orientations, we are not given jobs, fired from our current employments, and with discriminating laws we are prohibited to do our professions.

As Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people, we are real and we are part of the society.

We say NO! to those who reject our existence by retaining us from the social and political life.

We want legal reassurance which will enable us to participate in all fields of social life equally!

We want the realm of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation to be noticed.

In this society, not only heterosexual people are living, also we are!

No to Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination!

Stop Hate Crimes!

Stop Homophobia and Transphobia!

Police Brutally Attacked Transgenders in Ankara

Transgenders who are members of Pink Life Association were arrested after being brutally beaten up in Ankara. On the night of May 17th, in Esat district, Ankara police brutally attacked and dragged 5 transgenders to the Esat Police Station.

Policex92s response to those who called the station was x93Why do you care about these? Mind your own work.x94 5 trangender individuals were kept at the station till morning.

Arrested 5 transgenders were later taken to medical jurisprudence as a result of insisting demand of Pink Life and Kaos GL members and after lawyers showed up at the police station. After medical jurisprudence controls, 5 transgenders were again taken to the police station, where they were released at 06:00.

Here is Pink Lifex92s description of the police attacks:

x93On Baglar Street and infront of Seyranbaglari Post Office, police cars were pulled in front of the private cars of transgenders. When they refused to get out of the car, they have asked for a car wrecker. When the incident were heard by other people, the crowd grew bigger. Then the police used pepper spray and cudgels to break the crowd. Then they have taken Buse Kilickaya, Derya (Selay) Tunc, Turkan, Eser and Yesim who were in the car to the police station.

Last time we have seen our friends, we could see blood coming out of their mouths and noses of our friends. The polices later moved us -nearly 50 members of Pink Life and Kaos GL- away from the police station.x94

Arrested transgenders were released at 06:00!

At around 03:00, lawyer Hakan Y?ld?r?m stated that the 5 transgenders would be taken first to the medical jurisprudence and then brought back to the police station. The arrests were ended at 06:00.

STOP HATE CRIMES. NOW!

Verjaardag2006eva2ee STOP HATE CRIMES. NOW!

HOMOLOKET!

Homophobic and transphobic violence doesnx92t stop: Assault in Eski?ehir, murders in Bursa and Edirne!

A transsexual woman was attacked and beaten in Eski?ehir. A transsexual woman was found her head cut in Bursa. A man has been killed by his friend on the claim that he asked for sexual intercourse.

There is still no word from the authorities about the cases of Ahmet Y?ld?z who were shot to death on 15 July 2008 in Istanbul and Dilek ?nce who were shot to death on 12 November 2008 in Ankara.

While we were in grief after them, another transsexual woman Ebru Soykan was stabbed to death on 10 March 2009 in Istanbul. on 27 april in Izmir……

We continue to ask the same question again, x93When are you going to stop watching?x94 The murderers, who are encouraged by the silence of the state, continue on their fearless attacks. The recent news from Bursa horrified the LGBTT community in Turkey. We are in great sorrow after these brutal attacks.

Because crimes against LGBTT individuals are not punished!

We are worried!

Because the government does not take action to enact necessary legislation and implementation to avoid human rights violations against LGBTT individuals

We donx92t know if there will be any comments on the killings of Ahmet Y?ld?z and Dilek ?nce!

We are worried because we donx92t know whether the person who killed Ebru Soykan will be awarded with grievous provocation decrease in punishment!

We are not sure if the brutal murder in Bursa will be solved, or not!

We are concerned, because the government makes LGBTT persons easy targets by watching the attacks on them and thus encourages murderers.

We are concerned, because the government is paving the way for killings by not protecting the right to life of its LGBTT citizens.

We ask!

Until when are you going to stop watching the hate against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, and Transsexual (LGBTT) individuals?

Until when are you going to stop awarding crimes against LGBTT individuals and encouraging new crimes?

Why are the police departments in Istanbul and Ankara not able to find the murderers of Ahmet Y?ld?z and Dilek ?nce?

Why are there no comments from the Public Prosecutors?

Will the Bursa case be solved?

We wonder if there is an undeclared war against homosexuals and transsexuals in Turkey?

If not, how many others should be killed to make you take action?

We donx92t need mercy; we claim our basic human rights:

The right to life of LGBTT individuals must be protected equally with other citizens.

Cases of gay and trans murders must be solved.

Attackers and murderers must be found.

Decreases based on grievous provocation while punishing murderers of gay and trans persons must be abolished.

Crimes against LGBTT individuals must be defined under x93hate crimes.x94

You are committing crime by watching the murders, not providing right to life and imprisoning LGBTT persons into an unjust life!

Human rights violations against LGBTT individuals continue in the form of violation of rights to life.

Killers are being awarded with grievous provocation decreases in punishment!

LGBTT individuals are being excluded and isolated through hate speech!

LGBTT individuals forced into isolation are represented as lives with no values!

LGBTT individuals are being avoided from their legal rights and thus unprotected!

(Ankara, February 22, 2010)x97The recent murders of two transgender women in Turkey highlight an ongoing pattern of violence and the urgent need for stronger protection measures by the government, four Turkish and international human rights organizations said today in a letter to Turkish authorities.

The groups called on Turkey to remedy the conditions that place transgender people at risk from acts of violence by enacting anti-discrimination protections, instituting programs to combat prejudice and hatred, and repealing laws that provide an opportunity for police to harass stigmatized groups. The letter was sent by Pembe Hayat "Pink Life," Human Rights Watch, the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA-Europe), and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC).

"Protecting people and preventing violence means more than investigating after the fact," said Juliana Cano Nieto, researcher in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights program of Human Rights Watch. "Without meaningful government action to affirm their rights and ensure their safety, transgender people in Turkey will continue to live in fear."

Since November 2008, at least eight transgender people have been murdered in Istanbul and Ankara. The most recent killing was of a transgender woman called Aycan Yener on Feburary 16, 2010, in the Fatih area of Istanbul. Yener, whose legal given name was Fevzi, was killed in her apartment. Her throat was slit, and she was stabbed 17 times. Assailants also stabbed her roommate, Seyhan xd6zmemi?, 32, who survived. According to Turkish media, witnesses reportedly observed three people fleeing the scene, but no one has been arrested.

On February 8, Derya Y., a 35-year old transgender woman, was killed in her home in the Alt?nda? district of Antalya. Police found Derya Y. in her bedroom with her throat cut and multiple knife stab wounds to her face and body.

The targeted killings of transgender women are part of a broader pattern of violence against LGBT people in Turkey. According to Turkish media, the police found 56-year old ?inasi Halimo?lu, who had arranged a date with another man, dead on his bed on January 28 with multiple knife wounds to his back and neck.

In the wake of the killings, the police have made efforts to investigate and resolve these crimes. In two of the earlier cases, suspects were caught and prosecuted and sentenced to life in prison and in two other cases suspects are in pre-trial detention. The remaining murders are being investigated. However little has been done to protect LGBT people in Turkey, especially transgender people, from future acts of violence, the groups said.

In the letter, the organizations recommended:

  • Enacting anti-discrimination legislation that includes sexual orientation and gender identity as a legal protection;
  • Disaggregate statistics on violence figures that show violence against LGBT people; and
  • Instituting consistent communication between the police and LGBT rights groups.

"All citizens of Turkey, including transgender citizens, are entitled to live without fear of murder or persecution," said Hossein Alizadeh, Coordinator of IGLHRCx92s Middle East and North Africa program. "The homophobic killings need to stop, and for this we need the Turkish government to take concrete action to protect transgender people."

European bodies have called on Turkey, a member of the Council of Europe, and on other states to protect LGBT people from violence. The European Union, to which Turkey is seeking admission, adopted a progress report this month, reminding the Turkish government of the need to safeguard all minorities, including LGBT people. Similarly, in 2009, the commissioner for human rights in the Council of Europe, Thomas Hammarberg, urged all member States to enact legislation that would protect transgender people from attacks and violence.

"The Turkish government should stop ignoring demands by Pembe Hayat and other LGBTx92s in Turkey to take measures to stop ongoing transgender killings," said Kemal xd6rdek member of Pink Life. "The Constitution and the Penal Code need to guarantee equality and non-discrimination. The Government in turn needs to stop hate murders against transgender people and violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity."

Human rights groups like Pembe Hayat have documented a long history of police abuse in Turkey, as well as violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity by state and private actors. In 2008, Human Rights Watch issued reports on violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, and on police violence, including harassment and abuse against transgender people in Istanbul.

ILGA-Europe will visit Turkey in April to assess Turkeyx92s compliance with its European and international human rights obligations toward LGBT people and to document the violence, discrimination and other obstacles they face in Turkey. The organization has asked the authorities to discuss proposed measures to address the human rights concerns of the Turkish LGBT population.

"Turkey is witnessing ongoing violence and hate against LGBT people," said Silvan Agius, ILGA-Europex92s senior policy officer responsible for transgender equality. "The Turkish governmentx92s response needs to address the problems at their roots by tackling the severe stigma against LGBT people, social exclusion and poverty on the one hand, and the culture of gender stereotypes that is driving the violence and hate on the other."
